Photonics includes the generation, emission, transmission, modulation, signal processing, switching, amplification, detection and sensing of light.
Photonic and electronic devices are used in a variety of applications ranging from human-machine interfaces (e.g. image acquisition and displays) to energy conversion and storage, for example include solar cells, photodetectors, thin film transistors, sensors, and MEMS.
