Government Chief Scientific Advisor Visits LCN

Sir John Beddington with Prof. Richard Jackman in the Diamond Electronics Lab

Professor Sir John Beddington, Government Chief Scientific Advisor, together with Mrs Elizabeth Surkovic, Deputy Director, Science in Government, visited the LCN recently for a comprehensive tour of the labs and facilities. Showing a keen interest and enthusiasm for the work being undertaken at the LCN, Sir John had many questions for researchers working on various projects including those dealing with environmental applications, biomedical and HIV research and also those using Scanning Tunneling Microscopes (STM). Both our visitors also donned the famous ‘bunny suits' and spent some time in the cleanroom where they were introduced to students and researchers and given in depth introductions to their work. Speaking after his visit, Sir John confessed that he should have asked fewer questions but that it ‘reflected the quality of the work and my interest in it'.
