A delegation from BP, including Professor Ellen Williams, Chief Scientist, Peter Duff, Senior Science & Technology Manager and Nick Hazel, Technical Specialist, made an official visit to UCL and the LCN on 24 May 2011.
Their visit included meeting with the Thomas Young Centre management and UCL senior figures, followed by a tour of the London Centre for Nanotechnology. Whilst at LCN, the BP delegation met with Professor Des McMorrow, Deputy Director of the LCN, Dr David Sarphie, CEO of Bio Nano Consulting and Professor Neal Skipper, to discuss LCN's ongoing work and capabilities in the field of energy research.
Following the visit to UCL, Professor Williams gave a seminar entitled "Making energy sustainable - Scientific challenges in determining the pathways to the future" in which the possibilities and challenges of developing a low carbon energy future were discussed and BP's part in these developments were presented.
Professor Des McMorrow commented "Professor Williams' visit to the LCN provided us with an opportunity to showcase our research in the energy sector. Our hope is that our guests enjoyed their visit, and that the LCN will be able to work in the future with BP on projects of common interest. "
The LCN is an interdisciplinary joint enterprise between UCL and Imperial College London. In bringing together world-class infrastructure and leading nanotechnology research activities, the Centre has the critical mass to compete with the best facilities world-wide. Research programmes are aligned to three key areas, namely Planet Care, Healthcare and Information Technology and exploit core competencies in the biomedical, physical and engineering sciences.
