Professor Geoff Thornton, London Centre for Nanotechnology, has this month been awarded the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Faraday Division's Surfaces and Interfaces Award.

The award was given for extensive and innovative contributions to the surface science of oxide materials using an interdisciplinary approach employing techniques from physics, chemistry and materials science.

As part of the award Professor Thornton will be delivering a series of lectures across the UK, between September 2011 and May 2012, and will receive £2,000 and a medal which will presented at one of these events.

Professor Thornton commented "'I am delighted and honoured to have been given this prestigious award by the Royal Society of Chemistry".
