The LCN provides access to world-leading experts in the converging fields of biotechnology, nano-electronics and nanotechnology and benefits from investment of around  £30 million in sophisticated, high-value instrumentation and equipment.
LCN has access to State-of-the art capital equipment within its laboratories at UCL and Imperial College.

UCL / Bloomsbury Site                       

At UCL, the Centre is a post-graduate research department for resident members under the co-directorship of Prof. Gabriel Aeppli:

  • operating budget ca £10M pa
  • ca. 32 resident PI’s from 4 faculties (Engineering, life sciences, phys.sci., medicine)
  • typical PI 100% research in LCN/100% UG teaching/community service in traditional department
  • research grants/overheads credited to LCN
  • undergrad/MSc tuition credited to traditional department
  • PG tuition credited to LCN, small admin fee to traditional depts.
  • separate teaching/research line mgmt, Deans adjudicate

Imperial College / South Kensington Site       

At Imperial, LCN is a virtual centre with real branded space and resident members under the co-directorship of Prof. Milo Shaffer.  All monies flow through traditional departments of the university and all researchers are employed by one of the College’s departments.
