Professor Sir Michael Pepper FRS has been awarded the Dirac Medal for the Advancement of Theoretical Physics by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and the Australian Institute of Physics.
The Medal commemorates the visit to the university in 1975 of Professor Dirac, who gave five lectures that were subsequently published as a book, Directions of Physics. Professor Dirac donated the royalties from this book to the University for the establishment of the Dirac Lecture and Prize.
Professor Pepper also gave the 2013 Dirac Public Lecture on advanced semiconductor growth technology and showed how this technology, which was developed for the information technology industry, has allowed the creation of new types of structures for investigating the quantum aspects of electron transport.
In addition Professor Pepper was also awarded an honorary degree at the same occasion.
