The LCN was pleased to host a recent visit to the department by Dr. Fidel Castro Diaz Balart, together with a delegation from the Cuban Embassy.
Dr Castro is a distinguished Cuban Scientist. In Cuba he has led a wide range of capacity building initiatives in science and technology, educational institutions and high tech enterprises in the nuclear field. He also headed the Research and Development activity of the Cuban Ministry of Industry and is currently the Scientific Advisor of the Council of State.
During his visit he expressed an interest in the use of Nanotechnology in Healthcare and Biomedical research and listened to presentations by Prof. Tom Duke (Director of Life Sciences), Dr. Chris Kay (Senior Lecturer in Biology), Dr. Rodolfo Hermans (PDRA) and visiting researcher Dr. Andrea Jimonez Dalmaroni. Rodolfo and Andrea delivered their presentations in Spanish to the delight of Dr. Castro and his colleagues. Following the talks he was given a guided tour of the building and facilities.
