Condensed Matter Report Highlights LCN Research

Cover of the booklet on Condensed Matter Physics published by the IoP and EPSRCThe Institute of Physics (IoP) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) have jointly produced a new booklet highlighting groundbreaking research being carried out in condensed matter physics. The booklet is called Physics for future technology: Condensed matter and showcases world-class UK work in this field of physics, which has the greatest potential for commercial exploitation.

The booklet explains the importance of condensed matter physics to a range of applications including medical devices, computers and DVDs. It looks at six examples of cutting-edge research in the UK, detailing the work of particular research teams in universities, national laboratories and industry.

LCN researchers referred to in the booklet include Professor Quentin Pankhurst for his work in nanoparticles in medicine, Dr Mark Ellerby and Professor Neal Skipper for research in carbon, Dr Ray Murray for work in lasers using quantum dots and Professor Marshall Stoneham for his work in quantum computing.

The booklet is available for download [PDF file].
