 Research Interests
  • Development and application of optical experimental methods in combustion, liquid atomisation and two-phase flows. The techniques include laser Doppler velocimeter (LDV), phase Doppler velocimeter (PDV), shadow Doppler velocimeter (SDV), particle tracking velocimeter (PTV) and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), flame chemiluminescence and laser induced fluorescence (LIF) of flame species and fuel vapour, planar droplet sizing and velocimetry (combined Mie/LIF technique and Interferometric Laser Imaging Droplet Sizing (ILIDS))
  • Experimental study of control of emissions and combustion oscillations for improved thermodynamic cycle efficiency of land-based gas turbines and industrial burners
  • Experimental study of control of emissions from Gasoline and Diesel engines - control of in-cylinder combustion and catalytic exhaust after-treatment
  • Development of flame sensors and optical instrumentation for quantitative imaging of temperature, heat release and mixing of air and fuel in flames (power generation and propulsion industries)
  • Experimental study of atomisation of liquid fuels and internal flow characteristics and liquid cavitation in injectors
  • Experimental study of particle pair dispersion and development of numerical models for particle pair dispersion and particle collisions
  • Development of optical particle sizing and composition of Nanoparticles
  • Particle agglomeration and granulation with applications in the chemical industry
  • Coating and cleaning of surfaces with applications in the food industry
  • Development of computer models for atomisation, particle/droplet dispersion and particle/droplet collision and agglomeration.
