The LCN welcomes approaches from industry, below is a sample of the mechanisms commonly used to collaborate with companies.

THE BIO-NANO CENTRE

The Bio-Nano Centre
-  BNC is a company capable of providing a seamless concept-to-market route for the bio-nanotechnology sector with unique access to specialists and facilties at Imperial College and University College London.

Current clients
include Targanta Therapeutics - a pharmaceutical company and a large healthcare multinational.

RESEARCH COLLABORATION/CONTRACTS
LCN enters collaborations with companies in many ways including research contracts, longer-term relationships which can lead to the joint-development and/or  licensing of technology.

Past and current companies with LCN contracts/research or development collaborations include, to name a few:

- SUN Microsystems - development of a visualisation system

- BP - research in photovoltaics

- DMD - development of single-crystal diamond electronics

- Sematech - research in high-k dielectric materials
LICENSING INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Imperial InnovationsUCL Business plcBoth Imperial College and University College London have companies that manage technology transfer and consultancy process. They also have a role in company incubation and early stage funding. The LCN works closely with these companies to assist in the exploitation of its intellectual property portfolio.

SPONSORSHIP OF STUDENTSHIPS / FELLOWSHIPS / PROFESSORIAL CHAIRS
Sponsoring a studentship or fellowship is a cost-effective way of exchanging knowledge with the Centre and fostering a long-term relationship with research teams.
It is also possible to sponsor a professorial chair
Examples of past and current such collaborations include:

- STS / Sumitomo - professorial Chair of Nanotechnology
CONSULTANCY
UCL and Imperial College academics and research staff may be used for consultancy assignments. You may approach the academics direct or call the LCN general number who will be able to direct you the most appropriate person.
